The Conference of the National Assembly and IRE "Sustainable and interconnected cities of Europe" brings together international experts and local authorities of the Republic of Srpska

In the organization of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska and the Institute of the Regions of Europe (IRE), under the auspices of the President of the National Assembly Nedeljko Čubrilović, in Banja Luka, today, 29 March, starting at 9.00 pm will be held VI Conference of the Institute of Regions of Europe (IRE) on mobility: BANjA LUKA- HOW TO GET THE STATUS OF ENVIRONMENTALLY SUSTAINABLE CITY; Sustainable and interconnected cities of Europe.

The conference will be held in the presence of 20 foreign experts from several European countries and a team of IRE, as well as around 50 representatives of the local communities of the Republic of Srpska and representatives of scientific, educational and economic institutions.

At the beginning of the Conference at 9.00 pm the participants of the Conference will be addressed by the President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska Nedeljko Čubrilović, President of the Institute of European regions Franz Schausberger, head of the Political Section of the EU Delegation to BiH and EU Special Representative in BiH, Mat Field and the Mayor of Banja Luka Igor Radojičić.

Then conference participants  will be addressed by Matjaž Vrčko, Minister of Infrastructure in the Government of Slovenia, Aleksander Piker, CEO of Commercial Bank from Belgrade and Dragan Samardžija from the Austrian Chamber of Commerce.

Following this speech, two panels are planned. The first panel begins at 11.30. and on it, among other things, the speakers wil be: Miran Gajšek, Chief of urban planning of the city of Ljubljana, Georg Friedrich Kopen from the Department of Urban Planning of the city of Munich and Elena Markidjani, professor at the Faculty of Civil Engineering, University of Trieste, Italy.

The second panel is scheduled for 13.30 hours. The challenges of urban areas will be discussed by representatives of the City of Vienna, Barcelona and Banja Luka.

The conference will be, among other things, on plans for the construction and development of the highest environmental standards of European cities in the region and the experience of European cities in the area.

 

Through two panels on which the construction of environmentally sustainable and smart cities will be discussed , as well as the roadmap for the European area through traffic linking urban regions, along with the participation of experts IRE, the representatives of local communities of the Republic of Srpska will also take part in the discussion.

Most Europeans live in urban areas where environmental problems have become major challenges for cities. It is a big commitment, for one city to become environmentally friendly,  that requires continuous involvement of citizens in the process.

This conference will provide an analysis of the current state of the situation in European cities and will focus on policy and strategy for the cities that are on the beginning of this process.

Local communities will be presented with the experiences of EU countries, in the context how to get life standards that will respect every citizen and how to preserve human life of the people in urban areas.
