The President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska, Dr. Nenad Stevandić, spoke today in Banja Luka with the Ambassador of Slovakia to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Roman Hloben, regarding the process of European integration.
President Stevandić emphasized that the European integration process must respect and acknowledge the constitutional framework of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the constitutional status and rights of the Republic of Srpska.
He referenced Article 4, Paragraph 2 of the Treaty on European Union, which mandates that the EU respect the essential state functions and constitutional structures of its member states. He noted that the specific characteristics of candidate countries must also be honored during the accession process.
Stevandić stated that while the Republic of Srpska possesses the political will for European integration, the solution to the current political crisis does not lie in further pressure on the Republic of Srpska. Instead, he advocated for dialogue and mutual respect for jurisdictions in accordance with the Constitution.
