The President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska Dr Nenad Stevandić talked in Banja Luka today with the Ambassador of the United States of America to Bosnia and Herzegovina H. E. Michael J. Murphy on political and economic topics in the Republic of Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska expressed his gratitude for Ambassador Murphy's statement that the United States of America has no intention of abolishing the Republic of Srpska.

President Stevandić believes that there are numerous topics that have a common agreement, primarily related to economic development and the de-escalation of relations in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The interlocutors also discussed different views on state property and the way Bosnia and Herzegovina functions.

President Stevandić characterized the moves of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska, the Government of the Republic of Srpska, and the President of the Republic of Srpska as exclusively defensive, and that the Republic of Srpska is pursuing a defense policy, stating that the abolition of the Republic of Srpska was called for incomparably more times than there was talk of its independence.

President Stevandić also said that the decisions of the Republic of Srpska institutions are exclusively defensive and are the result of an attack on the Republic of Srpska.

President Stevandić added that there is a common agreement about European integration and economic development, but he noted that the Republic of Srpska will continue to make its own decisions that are the result of its political and constitutional position and is always open to discussions with all representatives of the people and entities in order to found the best possible solutions for peace, prosperity, and common development.
