The President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska, Dr Nenad Stevandic, attended today's reception in Belgrade to mark the Day of the Republic of Srpska and the 33rd anniversary of the proclamation of the first Srpska Constitution.

The reception named “For eternity born”, held in the House of Army, was attended in by the PM of the Republic of Srpska Radovan Viskovic, the PM of Serbia, and the envoy of the president of Serbia Milos Vucevic, the president of the Assembly of Serbia Ana Brnabic and the envoy of the Serbian Patriarch, the Bishop of Hvostan Aleksej.

The Minister of Interior of the Republic of Srpska, Sinisa Karan, the Minister of energy and mining, Petar Djokic, the Minister for Information in the Serbian Government Dejan Ristic, the Chief of the Republic of Srpska Representative Office in Serbia Mladjen Cicovic, the representatives of the diplomatic choir as well as eminent persons from the sphere of culture, science, art, economy, and the sport of Serbia and Srpska.

Addressing the present, Stevandic said that the Republic of Srpska and the Republic of Serbia are leaning on each other and that this unity has not failed even in the worst periods. He stressed that Serbia has no better friend than Serbs from the Republic of Srpska.

“It is a difficult time indeed, but we have no doubt, we have experience”, said Stevandic.

He pointed out that Serbia is trying to destabilize, that they are trying to finish off Republic of Srpska and that they are trying to turn Serbia's head away from that.

He wished Serbia to overcome the adversity and discomfort, emphasizing that it is a guiding star.

"We are aware that sometimes we are a burden to you, but we are convinced that sometimes we are a little useful because we are trying to contribute to national and state-building thought," said Stevandic.

He added that in the Republic of Srpska they sleep with one eye open because we are always in danger.

"Sometimes a commodity causes despondency, and we don't have that in Republic of Srpska," said Stevandic.

Regarding the latest developments in the Republic of Srpska, he said that they concern not only its current president, Milorad Dodik, but also who will sign the acts adopted by the National Assembly tomorrow.

This year's ceremonial reception program, which is being organized for the 11th time, was prepared in the spirit of marking the great jubilee: 850 years since the birth of the spiritual progenitor of the Serbian people, Saint Sava, and 805 years since the first Serbian legal act written in the vernacular—the Code of Laws or the Krmčija of Saint Sava.
