The President of the National Assembly Dr Nenad Stevandic talked today in Banja Luka with the United Nations Resident Coordinator in BH Ingrid Macdonald. The conversation was about actual political and economic questions in the Republic of Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

President Stevandic pointed out during the conversation that the Republic of Srpska has been in favor of keeping peace and stability in the Republic of Srpska and Bosnia and Herzegovina, respecting the Charter of the United Nations on Human Rights and the decisions of the United Nations Security Council, having in mind the fact that Security Council did not name Christian Smith.

The President of the National Assembly said that the reforms for better citizens’ standards will be continued but that these reforms need to respect the Dayton Peace Agreement, and the principles of equality and consent of three peoples and two entities.

The President of the National Assembly stressed that no matter of political disagreement, peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina has never been threatened and that Bosnia and Herzegovina should have gotten the candidate status much earlier. He highlighted that peace and stability can be exclusively kept by investing and creating new job positions, because unemployment represents the main cause of social unrest.

The meeting concluded with the fact that is necessary to continue with the previous cooperation between the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska and the Mission of the United Nations. President Stevandic thanked the Coordinator for United Nations’ support, reflected in constructively dealing with issues of peace and prosperity without conditions and taking sides.
