Vice-President Sulic met with Teresa Ribeiro, OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media

Vice-President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska Denis Sulic talked today with the  OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, Teresa Ribeiro, on the media freedom, implementation, and strengthening of the legal framework in the sphere of media and expression, financial sustainability and independence of the system of public broadcasting and the initiatives for the freedom of media and public expression in the Republic of Srpska.

Vice-President Sulic stated that the freedom of the media is a pillar of every democratic society and that the Republic of Srpska as a young democracy, respects that freedom but it is ready to learn from good experiences in this sphere.

He stressed that in the future reporters should get the status of official persons and their work would be facilitated.

Vice-President said that the security of the reporters in the Republic of Srpska is very good and that reporters who work for public service BHRT and come from the Republic of Srpska, are exposed to constant pressure and critics from Bosnian political structures.

He also highlighted that he is honored by the fact that no matter the world situation no media from the Republic of Srpska nor BiH has been forbidden.

When it is about the work of non-governmental organizations, Vice President Sulic said that the Republic of Srpska will look up to the USA Law on this issue.

He added that the Law on nongovernmental organizations is not in procedure yet but that in the process of its creation special attention will be paid to its modernity.
