The central event commemorating the victims of genocide in NDH in Donja Gradina on May 12

The President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska, Dr Nenad Stevandic, attended today in the Palace of the Republic the first meeting of the Organizing Committee for the commemoration of the victims of the genocide of the Independent State of Croatia (NDH) in the Jasenovac concentration camp and its largest execution site, Donja Gradina.

The Committee decided that the Central event commemorating 79 years of the breakout of detainees from the Ustasa concentration camp Jasenovac and its greatest executioner Donja Gradina will be held on May 12 in the Donja Gradina Memorial Area.

On the same day spiritual academy will be held in Kozarska Dubica, it was announced by the office of the President of the Republic of Srpska.

At the meeting, the president and vice president of the Organising Committee were named.

According to the data of the Donja Gradina Memorial Area, around 700,000 victims were killed in the infamous Ustasha Jasenovac camp during World War II, including 500,000 Serbs, 40,000 Roma, 33,000 Jews, and 127,000 anti-fascists. 20,000 children died in Jasenovac.

This is one of the historical events that Serbia and the Republic of Srpska commemorate together.
