Members of the Security Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska met with the United Nations delegation led by the UN Special Rapporteur for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms in the fight against terrorism Fionnuala Ní Aoláin.

 The members of the Security Committee, headed by President Vukota Govedarica, introduced the UN special rapporteur to the scope of work and competencies of the Committee in connection with the review of laws and other acts in the field of security, with special reference to parliamentary control of the police and security services, stressing the importance of coordinated action of all competent institutions, especially police, judicial and intelligence-security services in the fight against all forms of extremism and terrorism.

President of the Security Committee Vukota Govedarica, expressing his gratitude to the UN special rapporteur for her visit to the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska, informed the UN delegation about a series of terrorist attacks that took place in Bosnia and Herzegovina in the past.

 Representatives of the Security Committee emphasized that the absence of the Law on the fight against terrorism, the insufficient level of coordination of security, intelligence, and police services at the level of BiH, and the lack of effective parliamentary control over the work of the Intelligence and Security Agency of BiH represent serious problems in the fight against terrorism.

 The meeting discussed the Strategy of Bosnia and Herzegovina for the prevention and fight against terrorism for the period 2021-2026. and the importance of adopting action plans for its effective implementation, in which, as pointed out, the Security Committee will play an active role. The UN Global Strategy for the fight against terrorism, the migrant crisis, and border control were also discussed. The meeting was attended by members of the Security Committee Zoran Stevanović, Milanko Mihajilica, Milan Dakić, Srđan Todorović, and Dragan Galić.
