The President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska Dr Nenad Stevandic attended tonight in Belgrade the ceremony marking the anniversary of the proclamation of the first Constitution of the Republic of Srpska and 9th January, the Republic Day, which has been traditionally organised by the representative Office of the Republic of Srpska in Serbia.

President Stevandic said that the proclamation of the Constitution of the Serbian Republic BiH in 1992 had been of fateful importance for Srpska which, nowadays, as well as then, is decisive to defend gained rights.

“The Republic of Srpska is committed to peace and respect, but it is also decisive to fight for gained rights. We are commemorating the proclamation of the first Constitution of the Republic of Srpska, because it has been a legal continuity and it means when there are people, authorities, territory, and Constitution, then statehood could be referred to”, said Stevandic.

He said that there is a need to think about the new Constitution of the Republic of Srpska, but this means economic independence and political stability.

“Economically and politically independent and stable Srpska would always be ready for challenges which would be easier to overcome if there would be unity binding by the Constitution”, said Stevandic.

The formal reception in the Serbia Army House was attended by the highest officials of the Republic of Srpska and Serbia, the Serbian Patriarch Porfirije, the representatives of the diplomatic corps, eminent personalities from the sphere of culture, science, art, economy, and sport of the Serbia and Srpska.
