Advisor to the National Assembly President participated as Panelist of a Roundtable in Paris: It is Important to Preserve the Dayton Structure of BiH

The Advisor to the President of the National Assembly of The Republic of Srpska, Doc. Dr. Dragan Dakić, participated in Paris as a panelist at the roundtable "30 Years After Dayton: Peace, Challenges, and Perspectives", organized by the Representative Office of the Republic of Srpska in France.

This academic and professional gathering brought together numerous academic experts, diplomats, and researchers who discussed the achievements of the peace agreement so far, its contemporary challenges, and the prospects for further preserving stability in the region.

Dakić emphasized that participation in this roundtable is significant, not only in the academic but also in the socio-political context.

"The commemoration of three decades of the Dayton Peace Agreement is an opportunity to recall, in addition to academic analysis, the gravity of the historical moment that enabled the cessation of war and the establishment of a lasting framework for peace. As a panelist, I believe it is our obligation to use academic dialogue to highlight the importance of preserving the Dayton structure of BiH, with the Republic of Srpska in its contractual capacity, and to contribute to its proper understanding in light of contemporary challenges," stated Dakić, Advisor to the National Assembly President Dr. Nenad Stevandić for International Law.

The participants of the roundtable stressed that the Dayton Peace Agreement, since its signing in 1995, has remained the foundation of the constitutional-legal order of Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as one of the key documents in the European post-Cold War architecture of peace. Topics discussed included institutional development, the relationship between the entities, the position of consociational democracy, and the impact of contemporary security challenges on the stability of the agreement. Special attention was paid to issues concerning the legal sustainability of the peace framework, as well as the need for its consistent observance in light of new geopolitical circumstances.

The roundtable represents the central segment of the multi-day program commemorating the 30th anniversary of the Dayton-Paris Peace Agreement, which is taking place in Paris from December 2 to 5, 2025, alongside numerous accompanying events at various locations in the French capital.

Exhibition "Dayton–Paris 1995: Peace in Pictures"

As an accompanying event, the exhibition "Dayton–Paris 1995: Peace in Pictures" was formally opened at the Cultural Centre of Serbia in Paris on December 4. It was organized by the Representative Office of the Republic of Srpska and Balkan Media.

The exhibition presents a unique visual chronicle of the process of concluding the Dayton-Paris Peace Agreement, through 30 exclusive photographs taken by the celebrated Serbian and French photographer and journalist Milovan Miki Ćirovski.

Visitors to the exhibition had the opportunity to see authentic shots taken during the historical negotiations, the signing of the agreement, and the diplomatic activities that led to the cessation of hostilities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The focus of the exhibition is on the documentary value of the works, as well as the role of photography as a witness to political and civilizational turning points.

It was Ćirovski who published the complete and original text of the peace agreement in the French magazine "Regards actualité" – an issue that was completely sold out at French newsstands at the time, which attests to the great interest of the European and world public in the document that brought peace to the former Yugoslavia.
