The internship program
In 2003, the National Assembly of The Republic of Srpska, in cooperation with the National Democratic Institute (NDI) and the University of Banja Luka, signed a Memorandum of Understanding, thus launching the internship program. Since 2006, the National Assembly has been independently running this program.
The program has provided an opportunity for final-year students and absolvents whose study programs related to law, economics, political science, philosophy, history, and psychology to familiarize themselves with the work of the highest legislative body in The Republic of Srpska through activities defined by this program.
During the six-month internship, students are actively involved in the preparation of working body sessions, drafting minutes from working body sessions, comparative analysis of laws, gathering information concerning acts on the agenda of plenary sessions, and assisting in the organization of thematic sessions of parliamentary committees. Furthermore, during the internship, students are obliged to attend lectures on the topic of the legislative process in The Republic of Srpska, organized by the professional service of the parliament. Visits to the most significant institutions of The Republic of Srpska are also organized for the students.
Since the launch of this project, about 500 students have participated in the program to date.
