President Stevandic attended the commemoration of the suffering of Serbs in Prebilovci

Nenad Stevandic, the president of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska, said in Prebilovci tonight that life has returned to the village, where 84 years ago one of the most brutal Ustase crimes against the Serb people was committed. He added that the victims will not be forgotten.

Stevandic emphasized that both the Republic of Srpska and Serbia have shown the will to remember and cherish the memory of the victims.

"Without our will, nothing would be worth it. As long as we have this will, as long as we respect each other, our victims will not be forgotten. We will remember them with dignity and teach our children," Stevandic said in Prebilovci, where he is attending the festive evening service on the eve of the feast of the Holy Martyrs of Prebilovci and other Herzegovinian martyrs.

Stevandic said that he has brought his family to Prebilovci several times and that he hopes many Serbs have brought their families here to learn something about this place.

Stevandic added that the infrastructure has been restored in Prebilovci and a church has been built.

The Ustase committed the massacre in Prebilovci between August 6 and 11, 1941, under the command of Ivan Jovanovic Crni. Most of the victims were thrown alive into the Golubinka pit, while the others were killed on the spot.

The Church of Christ's Resurrection in Prebilovci was built and consecrated in 2015 in memory of the approximately 4,000 Serbs from lower Herzegovina who were killed by the Ustase in World War II and were canonized by the Serbian Orthodox Church the same year.
