A delegation from the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska visited Szentendre today, a unique cultural, spiritual, and historical center for Serbs in Hungary.
During the visit, it was agreed that the Republic of Srpska will issue a postage stamp featuring motifs from Szentendre. It was concluded that the issuance of a joint postage stamp serves as a lasting cultural hallmark of the "Serbian Days" manifestation, contributing to the increased visibility of Serbian cultural heritage in Hungary. Furthermore, this initiative strengthens the ties between the institutions and cultural spaces of Serbia, the Republic of Srpska, and the Serbian community in Hungary.
The National Assembly delegation included the following Members of Parliament: Milica Lovrić, Maja Dragojević Stojić, Aleksandar Trninić, and Siniša Mijatović.
Szentendre represents a unique site of centuries-old memory in Central Europe—a city where the spiritual, artistic, and educational foundations of the Serbian community in Hungary have been built over the ages. Notably, the city is home to the Cathedral Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Serbian Ecclesiastical Museum, which houses a vast collection of preserved icons and liturgical artifacts.
The motifs of Szentendre’s temples, along with the iconographic and ecclesiastical-artistic heritage of the Serbian Ecclesiastical Museum, carry profound symbolism for the entire Serbian cultural space, both in the homeland and the diaspora.
