The President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska, Dr Nenad Stevandić, attended the ceremonial academy on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the 1st Guards Motorized Brigade of the Main Staff of the Army of the Republic of Srpska this evening at the Cultural Center “ Banski Dvor” in Banja Luka.

Addressing the audience, President Stevandić said that no one in the Republic of Srpska should avoid such important jubilees that cherish and preserve the memory of the fighters of the Patriotic War, especially those who, unfortunately, are no longer with us.

He pointed out that we pay respect to all those people only by remembering them, and that the 1st Guards Motorized Brigade is a very important unit that had battles in many places and that even streets throughout the Republic of Srpska are named after it.

"It is up to all of us not to forget these heroisms and to pass them on to our children," said Stevandic.

The Vice President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Srpska Petko Rankić also attended the Academy.

The First Guards Motorized Brigade was founded by the decision of the Main Staff of the Army of the Republic of Srpska on Epiphany, January 19, 1993. About 7 100 Guardsmen passed through that brigade, and 118 of them contributed their lives to the foundations of the Republic of Srpska.

Thanks to the heroism of the Guardsmen, the municipality of Trnovo in the Republic of Srpska exists today, and thanks to the heroism and sacrifice of the recruits - young Guardsmen, the municipality of Kalinovik also survived.

As a sign of gratitude, the municipalities of Trnovo and Kalinovik recognized the 1st Guards Brigade in such a way that one of the main streets in these municipalities has been named after a heroic unit of the Army of the Republic of Srpska
