Library of the National Assembly of the Republika Srpska
The Library of the National Assembly of The Republic of Srpska (abbreviated: Parliamentary Library) belongs to the group of special libraries, of a closed type. It is located on the premises of the National Assembly in Banja Luka, and represents an important factor in the development of parliamentarism and librarianship in this area.
According to the original plan, the Parliamentary Library was planned to function as an information department of the National and University Library of The Republic Srpska for the initial ten months. Today, it is an independent library, modeled after parliamentary libraries in the region, which operates in a specially equipped space.
The beginning of Work
The Library officially began its work on December 12, 2016. The Library possesses a large number of books from various fields (law, international relations, politics, history, philosophy, psychology, sociology, economics, public administration, literature).
After several years of working in inadequate premises, the library was moved into a new room, specially equipped for the needs of the library. With this move, the library was, in a way, returned to where it was once located, because the military library was housed in the building where the Parliamentary Library is located today, during the time of the SFR Yugoslavia and the existence of the JNA Home (Dom JNA).
Library Collection (Fond)
The library collection includes books, monographs, and a significant amount of another library-information material. A part of the library collection was taken over from the military library that was previously located on the premises where the National Assembly is currently headquartered; a part of the books are donations from the National and University Library of The Republic Srpska, the Faculty of Philosophy in Banja Luka, as well as from several prominent individuals.
Library Users
According to the Rules of Procedure of the Parliamentary Library of the National Assembly of The Republic Srpska, the library users can be deputies, employees in the service, and external users can also use the services. An external user of the library can be a person engaged in scientific-research work or a student intern in the National Assembly, as well as other users. External users can research the library collection of the Parliamentary Library with the prior approval of the Secretary General of the National Assembly of The Republic of Srpska.
All users of the Parliamentary Library are obliged to announce their arrival at the library via email at least three days in advance and state which literature they are interested in. External users of the library must obtain the consent of the Secretary General of the National Assembly of The Republic of Srpska.
